Around 10.000 people in total participated in Folkemødet, a political festival organised on Bornholm between 15 and 18 June 2011. It was the first time for Folkemødet to have been organised but the next year’s edition is already being planned. Folkemødet follows the example of the well established Swedish Almedalsveckan (to be held in Visby between 4 and 10 July this year).
Folkemødet was attended by the Danish Prime Minister Lars Lökke Rasmussen and the head of the opposition in parliament, Mrs Helle Thorning Schmidt from the Socialdemocrats. Four Danish members of EU Parliament, leader of the Danish People’s Party, Mrs Pia Kjärsgaard also took part. You will find more on the official Folkemødet website.
